Widespread Panic Schedules Highly Anticipated 2014 Fall Tour Stop At The St. Augustine Amphitheatre Sunday, October 5, 2014
St. Augustine, FL (July 14, 2014) – Southern rock jam band Widespread Panic announces 2014 Fall Tour with a stop at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Sunday, October 5. Tickets go on sale to the public this Friday, July 18 at 10AM.
Inheriting the road-warrior mantle left behind by the Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic has established a devout grassroots following on the strength of constant touring and a loose, rootsy brand of Southern rock infused with jazz and blues textures. The group's origins date to 1982, when vocalist John Bell and guitarist Mike Houser first began playing together while attending college in Athens, Georgia. When bassist Dave Schools left academia to join the duo the next year, Widespread Panic were officially born.
Widespread Panic has sold more than three million records and released a total of 20 records, building a loyal following on the road beginning in dingy dive bars across the South and eventually headlining nearly every major U.S. music festival and selling out some of the world’s most prestigious venues. No artist has more sold-out concerts at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater, and their headlining appearance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival set the single-day attendance record. The celebration for their first live album, Light Fuse, Get Away, drew more than 100,000 fans for a free show in downtown Athens and is still considered one of the largest CD-release parties in music history.
Widespread Panic has been featured on ABC Good Morning America, CBS Sunday Morning, CNN’s Showbiz Today, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and the Late Show with David Letterman. They have headlined most major US festivals including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Outside Lands Music Festival, Jazz Aspen and Vegoose as well as being regular headliners at The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
