The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens Announces Free Admission and Programming on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day


Annual celebration of Dr. King’s legacy is sponsored by The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida

Jan. 11, 2023 — JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens today announced it will provide free admission and programming to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Sponsored by The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida’s Presidential Grants Program for the fourth consecutive year in the row, events and activities will be presented throughout the day. Highlights include:

-Mindful Yoga in the gardens with Katie Helow of Casita Yoga Studio from 10 to 11 a.m. Guests must bring their own towel or mat. Registration for this event is required. Click here to register.
-Free admission for all from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
-Live music sets throughout the day by Akia Uwanda, a classically trained, soulful jazz vocalist
-Performances by the renowned Ritz Chamber Players and Jacksonville Arts & Music School (JAMS) chorus
-JAMS The Book of Lost Magic Book Signing and StoryWalk debut
-Live Painting Activity with Myah Freeman & the Ritz Theatre and Museum
-Poetry Activity with Chynnia Chandler & the Ritz Theatre and Museum
Scavenger hunt
-A prayer for peace to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., guided by community faith leaders, OneJax and UNF Interfaith students

“We welcome everyone to join us for a day of community and reflection to honor the life of Dr. King and the profound impact of his legacy,” said Dr. Andrea Barnwell Brownlee, the George W. and Kathleen I. Gibbs Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Museum.

Reservations are recommended for the Cummer Café, which will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
