JACKSONVILLE, FL – On Saturday, October 19th from 6:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. at Adam H. Herbert University Center, The Salvation Army will hold its Sixth Annual Red Shield Ball, which raises funds for the Red Shield Lodge women and families shelter. The shelter, located at 900 West Adams Street in downtown Jacksonville, impacted 7,818 individuals, families and women in 2018.
While at the shelter families receive intensive case management services including crisis intervention and counseling, as well as training in personal finance, parenting skills and child development, stress management, and health and wellness, all to boost the odds of success upon leaving the shelter. Families are also assisted in finding permanent housing.
Area Commander Major Keath Biggers noted, “The Red Shield Ball is a major fundraiser, from which the proceeds enable The Salvation Army to provide needed assistance to families who are able to find a safe structured program at our Towers’ facility. They receive the services of a caseworker who works with these vulnerable families to develop a plan of self-sufficiency and walks with them through this path towards accomplishing this goal. We are only able to “do the most good” because of our generous friends, partners and supporters.”
The Red Shield Ball was launched in 2014 in order to raise funds specifically for the shelter and the services provided there and has been a success since. The Salvation Army's Sixth Annual Red Shield Ball is the place to be to make a real difference in the lives of the women and families who call the Red Shield Lodge home. This elegant, gala-style fundraiser includes dinner, live music, dancing, live and silent auctions, all to support the life changing work that takes place at the Red Shield Lodge shelter. Tickets are $175 (young professionals 35 and under are $125).
