JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Jaguars OT and second-round draft selection Cam Robinson from the University of Alabama became the sixth member of the team’s 2017 draft class to sign his rookie contract, the club announced today.
“It feels great,” said Robinson after signing his contract on Wednesday. “It is something that you always dream about when you are a kid. It is a life-long goal. To get this accomplished is another checkmark off the list.”
The Jaguars entered the second day of the NFL Draft with one selection in each of the second (35th overall) and third (68th) rounds. The Jaguars then traded their second- (35th) and sixth (187th)-round selections to the Seattle Seahawks for the 34th overall pick, and selected Robinson.
“I think (OTAs are) going well,” said Robinson. “There are always a ton of things I can improve on. That is the type of player I am. I am always looking to improve. I think for the most part I have made pretty good strides and I have done a good job with progressing day in and day out.”
Robinson, 6-6, 320, started all 43 games at LT during his three-year career in Tuscaloosa. The recipient of the 2016 Outland Trophy – given annually to the nation’s top interior lineman on offense or defense – served as a team captain for the Crimson Tide during his junior season in 2016 and helped Alabama lead the SEC in scoring offense (38.8 points per game) en route to unanimous first-team All-America honors. Over the course of his career, Robinson paved the way for 100-yard rushers on 28 occasions, and led the team with 37 knockdowns in 2016. A native of Monroe, La., Robinson was the top-rated OT in the nation and was a first-team All-USA selection coming out of high school.
“I do like the things that he did, I think he responded well, I thought he moved really well, especially for a big man,” said Head Coach Doug Marrone about Robinson’s performance in the team’s rookie minicamp on May 13.
Robinson joins first-round RB Leonard Fournette, fourth-round WR Dede Westbrook, fifth-round LB Blair Brown and seventh-round selections CB Jalen Myrick and FB Marquez Williams as 2017 draftees to sign their rookie contracts
