If your taste buds are wanting something deliciously different after all of the heavy holiday foods, go check out Co3Vietaco located on Beach Blvd near San Pablo.

Co3Vietaco had their grand opening back in October, serving up the traditional Vietnamese Banh Xeo and Banh Khot along with a Vietnamese-Mexican fusion creation they call the Vietaco.

Sadly until now, my experience with Vietnamese food has only been with Pho and Banh Mi. So when I saw the Co3Vietaco sign go up, I was really intrigued and excited to try something new.

The Banh Xeo looks similar to a crepe, but that's where the similarities end. This Vietnamese version doesn't even contain eggs! The "shell" is made from rice flour, turmeric(which gives it its yellow color) and coconut cream. You choose your choice of filling- beef, chicken, shrimp, pork, calamari or veggies. It's served with a side of basil, pickled carrot and daikon and romaine lettuce leaves that you use to make into lettuce wraps.

The Bahn Khot uses the same batter to make smaller, bite sized "pancakes" that are little cups that hold the same choices of fillings(this comes with corn as part of the filling).

The Vietaco comes 2 to an order and again, uses the same batter but this time flash fried. The result is a light and crispy taco shell that is filled with the protein of your choice.

Co3Vietaco also has several Asian style drinks. Bernie, the owner gave me his recommendations. If you want something crisp and refreshing, try their Tamarind drink, Its carbonated and tastes like tamarind, pineapple and ginger. Craving something sweet and creamy? Go for the Thai Tea. You can also get Vietnamese coffee here, and if you have ever had one... you know that's the one to order if you're needing a caffeine boost! If you are feeling more adventurous, definitely try their Co3 Specialty- It's a Longan flavored drink with basil seeds, grass jelly and chia seeds.

Bernie and Mel recently launched their Vietnamese yogurt drinks that they make in house. They are high in probiotics and come in several fruit flavors like blueberry and raspberry.

So if you are looking for a lighter, healthier Taco Tuesday option or wanting to try something new- Co3Vietaco is the place to go!
