Keeping Up With The Action Of THE PLAYERS Championship This Week

When the best golfers in the world tee it up in Ponte Vedra Beach this week for THE PLAYERS Championship, coverage will be at an all-time high thanks to live telecasts, digital platforms and radio broadcasts that give fans myriad options to catch all the action THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass has to offer. In addition, the tournament will be broadcast in Virtual Reality for the first time and will help make THE PLAYERS the center of the sporting world from May 9-14.
 

 
Domestic Television
NBC and Golf Channel will provide a total of 22 hours of live tournament coverage throughout the week. Golf Channel will air six hours of live golf on Thursday and Friday (1-7 p.m. ET), and NBC will present five hours of coverage on Saturday and Sunday (2-7 p.m. ET). Each day will include limited commercial interruptions, thanks to the generous support of THE PLAYERS’ Proud Partners Morgan Stanley, PwC and Optum.  In addition to the live coverage, Golf Channel will air primetime replays of competition on Thursday and Friday from 9 p.m.–12 a.m. ET and on Monday from 1-6 p.m.
 
Golf Channel also has an extensive amount of ancillary programming emanating from onsite at THE PLAYERS, nearly 50 hours of “Live From THE PLAYERS” and additional live coverage on “Morning Drive” Monday through Sunday from 7-9 a.m.
 
This year, the Comcast X1 Platform is running from 4/21 to 5/21 and includes PLAYERS-specific programming, features and targeted promos with tune-in. This content is available On Demand and through authenticated TV Everywhere
 
Live Broadcast in Times Square via Morgan Stanley
For the first time in PGA TOUR history, THE PLAYERS Championship will be broadcast live in Times Square in New York City on the side of Morgan Stanley’s building in Times Square. Morgan Stanley, one of the three Proud Partners of THE PLAYERS, will broadcast all of the weekend coverage and portions of the early-round coverage on the screens.

New access and features highlight the expansive digital coverage of THE PLAYERS 2017. 
 
PGA TOUR App
The updated PGA TOUR app is available for download on mobile platforms. This free app features live leaderboard and scorecards, play-by-play coverage, latest tournament news and video, player information and more. Enhancements to the app include:
  • For first time users, link your PGATOUR.COM and PGA TOUR ticket accounts within the app to buy tickets
  • Managing your digital tickets is simple and easy. Under “My Tickets” section, you can now use your contact list to transfer tickets to friends and family
  • Leave your wallet at home by adding credit cards to your PGA TOUR digital wallet
  • For Mastercard cardholders, a 10% discount is automatically applied to purchases made in the app at THE PLAYERS and other participating events
  • Use the mobile ordering feature for merchandise & concessions. Fans can pre-pay in the app and pick up their order using an express lane to save time
  • The Live Map lets fans know where they are on course and where to find the nearest concession stand, fan zone, players and more
  • Use the app to find friends using the new Friend Finder functionality
  • Follow live action from all over the course using the live leaderboard and player scorecards, complete with shot trails, play by play, and in round stats for every player in the field
 
Additionally, fans can access PGATOUR.COM from any computer, tablet, or phone for the most complete PLAYERS coverage anywhere.
 
PGA TOUR LIVE
PGA TOUR LIVE, will once again provide extensive early-round coverage to featured groups during THE PLAYERS. For the first time, PGA TOUR LIVE will also air early-week coverage of the event, including streaming the Military Appreciation Ceremony featuring Sam Hunt in its entirety, beginning at 6 p.m. PGA TOUR LIVE will also host a tournament preview show on Wednesday, May 10 from 12-2 p.m., featuring player interviews, expert analysis and an overview of the tournament, from analysis of the course renovations to features on the outside-the-ropes activities fans can experience onsite. Featured groups will air on Thursday and Friday with two featured groups in the morning wave and one featured group in the afternoon wave, with coverage extending from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, PGA TOUR LIVE will show one featured group in the morning and one in the afternoon, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
 

 
Two holes will be highlighted extensively throughout the week in the Featured Hole coverage, the iconic par-3 17th and the newly-renovated, risk/reward drivable par-4 12th. Those two holes will be covered from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 12-7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
 
PGA TOUR Experience on DIRECTV
For the first time, the PGA TOUR Experience on DIRECTV will feature THE PLAYERS. With four distinct channels (GOLF/NBC coverage simulcast, Featured Group, Launch Pad and ShotLink), the PGA TOUR Experience on DIRECTV will provide golf fans with new perspectives to watch the best field in golf take on the Stadium Course. This coverage will be live on Thursday and Friday from 1-7 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 12-7 p.m.
 
Virtual Reality
Fans will be able to experience the twists and turns of the island-green 17th hole at Stadium Course at through live 360 video and virtual reality (VR) during all four days of THE PLAYERS. The live VR experience can be viewed on Samsung Gear VR headsets on a global basis through the “PGA TOUR VR Live” app available on the Oculus store. For fans who don’t have a Gear VR headset, the 360 video stream will be available exclusively on Twitter and Periscope during all four days of the event. Using any smartphone, fans will be able to watch live, 360 video from the 17th hole during THE PLAYERS.  Fans can find the coverage starting on May 11 at twitter.com/PGATOUR or by following @PGATOUR on Twitter and Periscope.
 
The live VR experience is done in collaboration with Intel and will be produced with Intel True VR technology, bringing fans closer to the action than ever before with three concurrent VR camera positions during competition. One camera will be placed on the 17th tee, one camera on the walkway from tee box to the green, and one camera mounted in the water next to the island green.
