Jacksonville Fl - According to a recent study conducted by Sharecare, Jacksonville is ranked in the top 10 heaviest drinking cities for men and women. Some find this poll startling but some find it as getting Jacksonville on the "map".

Since the beginning, there has always been alot of drinking in Jacksonville but why so much? The answer lies in the fact that we are such a big city, not by population but by size and there is so little to do - or are there other factors to blame?

Until the last few years, people have been separated by rivers, the ditch at the beach & the lack of interest to drive to another area of town to find something to do. New campaigns have been sparking the interest of locals to travel out of their neighborhood to try something new causing this trend to change.

A few thoughts on the list from TotalFratMove.com:

- Hipster bros must be crushing microbrews in Portland.

- Most of these cities fall under the “there’s nothing else to do but get blackout” category.

- Salt Lake City coming out of nowhere for the ladies. To be fair, being a woman in Utah sounds awful. I’d drink heavily too. #SisterWifeStruggle

- Memphis is the number one drinking city for women, but makes the least heavy drinking cities for men. Not really sure how that works, but I guess the only non-tourists on Beale Street are the women and the little black kids doing gymnastics.

- The relatively short stretch of I-71 between Louisville and Cincinnati must be littered with empty beer cans and bourbon bottles. That is the most concentrated alcoholic area in America, according to this survey.

So, with that being said, Jacksonville is now on the map. Yes, we have had a Super bowl, we host the "largest cocktail party" - Fl/Ga and we have over 1,000 restaurants but now we are one of the "Heaviest Drinking Cities" - Cheers!!
