Florida East Coast Railway Christmas Train Is Coming To Town Saturday
Santa is coming to visit good boys and girls this week when Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway’s eighth annual Christmas Train comes to town on Saturday, December 9th.
The FEC Christmas Train is run in coordination with the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation and travels from Jacksonville to Miami along FEC Railway’s 351-mile mainline track.
Along the way to Miami, Santa Claus will be spreading holiday cheer from the decorated, historic FEC passenger cars. US Marine Corps service members will be at each stop along the route to greet Santa and his FEC elves. Santa will de-board at each stop so children can tell him what they’d like for Christmas. It is a beloved tradition among FEC employees, their families, customers, suppliers and the communities in which they serve.
Jim Hertwig, FEC President and CEO. Stated “We are proud to be able to once again work alongside the Marine Corps and the Toys for Tots Foundation to contribute to those in need during the holiday season," "Since we started the program seven years ago, we have donated close to 300,000 toys for distribution throughout the community, and it only continues to grow.”
The FEC Christmas Train is a 501c3, s... [Read More]
Jags Make It Three In A Row At The Bank
The Jacksonville Jaguars dominated the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 30-10. Blake Bortles led the Jacksonville offense with over 300 passing yards and 2 TDs in the air. BB5 performance helped to overcome a sluggish Jaguars running game in which the Colts out-rushed the Jags 141-96 yards. However, like most of the Jags wins this season, the Defense put together an elite performance.
Calais Campbell's first quarter sack earned him the Jaguars franchise single season sack record. Jalen Ramsey's (the King of Duval) interception to close out the second half stifled a drive where the Colts could have scored some quick points. Tashuan Gipson earned a second half interception that also stifled another Colts drive in Jaguars' territory. The Defense had problems with the Colts running game and some middle of the field passes, showing that Telvin Smith's absence might be a problem if it is a long term deal.
Regardless, let's make this clear: Your Jacksonville Jaguars have won eight games this season. Yesterday's win guaranteed that the Jaguars will not have a losing season for the first time since 2010. Think about this: Did any of us truly believe this team would even win 6 games th... [Read More]
The Navy Football Team Will Be Wearing Blue Angels Inspired Uniforms In It's Game With Army
The Navy football team will be wearing Blue Angels-inspired uniforms for the 2017 Army-Navy game on Dec. 9 in Philadelphia. It will be the 118th Army-Navy Game!
The uniform includes hand-painted helmets depicting six F/A-18 Hornets in delta formation, as well as a chrome face mask to mimic the visors worn by Blue Angel pilots.
“Although the uniform departs from our customary characteristics, this tribute to the Blue Angels reflects the enthusiastic pride and appreciation we have for the Navy’s premier flying team and the motivation they convey to Navy football and the fleet at large,” Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk said in a Navy release. “The masterminds at Under Armour are always thinking of ways to inspire our troops while still reflecting a deep appreciation for a Naval history that is so ingrained in our game day traditions. Annually, a special Navy uniform has become a statement in this game and brings with it appreciated meaning and a clear message that we are all in.”
Under Armour became the school’s official uniform supplier four years ago and every year, Under Armour has made a specialized uniform for the Navy game against Army.

Rodney Atkins at Mavericks Recap
Jacksonville FL - On January 25, 2014, Mavericks hosted Rodney Atkins who performed in front of lots of his fans. Braving the cold weather, many people came out to see this performer. Before the country singer went on to perform, two opening acts took the stage to get the crowd warmed up: Rose Falcon and Frankie Ballad.
Each of them was great in their performances. Frankie Ballad got the crowd going with his hits, “Bunch of Girls” and his newest song “Helluva Ride”. Frankie also played a cover of John Mellencamp’s song “Ain’t That America”. Personally, I liked his music; he had some great songs and was no stranger to Mavericks as he performed there last year. He also has a new album that will be released next month. As for Rose Falcon, she is new to country music and is also Rodney Atkins’ wife. An interesting fact is that if you were an Inspector Gadget movie fan back in 2003, she played a song for the second Inspector Gadget movie. That was the first time she was introduced as a pop singer. Now that she’s a country singer and starting over, it seems she’s ready for a country music career.

Darius Rucker with Eli Young Band and Corey Smith Coming To St. Augustine
St. Augustine, FL (January 20, 2014) –Darius Rucker returns to perform at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre with Eli Young Band and Corey Smith on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Darius Rucker previously performed at the Amphitheatre on October 29, 2010.
Rucker, who first attained multi-platinum status as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Hootie & the Blowfish, wrote ten of the twelve tracks on True Believers - ranging from his current single, the feel-good, sing-along, "Radio" to the sophisticated narrative of "Shine." He expresses special pride in the raw and realistic sentiments of songs like "Miss You" and "I Will Love You Still," a duet with young powerhouse vocalist Mallary Hope.
The two songs Rucker didn't have a hand in writing are both major events of their own. "Love Without You" features Sheryl Crow, with whom Rucker had wanted to record ever since they sang together at a VH1 function almost twenty years ago. For his version of the popular Old Crow Medicine Show song "Wagon Wheel," initially based on a sketch by Bob Dylan, Rucker, never expecting them to say yes, invited his tour partners and Capitol Records labelmates Lady Antebellum into the studio. When they came... [Read More]
New Lounge - The Volstead Opens Downtown
The Volstead joins Downtown Jacksonville right in time for 2014. Indulge in decadent bourbon, whiskey, and scotch on the top shelf, and try their classic cocktails made with a unique twist. Great drinks start with great ingredients, and aren’t we glad that we aren’t faced with the challenges that Prohibition brought to this nation.
“The Volstead” gets its name from The Volstead Act, which enacted Prohibition in the United States in late 1919. The act was later repealed in 1933, but the era would forever leave its mark on history. Some of histories most colorful personalities were players in bootlegging operations, and to this day bars still carry on the tradition.
Jacksonville Florida pre-prohibition was a beautiful, bustling city where people came to achieve their dreams; designed to be the original site of Hollywood where the stars and starlets of the era came to spend their time.
As the decade progressed the nation fell on hard times, Congressman Andrew Volstead chalked up the bill to eradicate the production and sale of liquor throughout the United States. As liquor became more scarece, people became craftier in finding ways to get hooch into the country. Due to the prime waterfront ... [Read More]
