Florida East Coast Railway Christmas Train Is Coming To Town Saturday

Santa is coming to visit good boys and girls this week when Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway’s eighth annual Christmas Train comes to town on Saturday, December 9th.

The FEC Christmas Train is run in coordination with the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation and travels from Jacksonville to Miami along FEC Railway’s 351-mile mainline track.

Along the way to Miami, Santa Claus will be spreading holiday cheer from the decorated, historic FEC passenger cars. US Marine Corps service members will be at each stop along the route to greet Santa and his FEC elves. Santa will de-board at each stop so children can tell him what they’d like for Christmas. It is a beloved tradition among FEC employees, their families, customers, suppliers and the communities in which they serve.

Jim Hertwig, FEC President and CEO. Stated “We are proud to be able to once again work alongside the Marine Corps and the Toys for Tots Foundation to contribute to those in need during the holiday season," "Since we started the program seven years ago, we have donated close to 300,000 toys for distribution throughout the community, and it only continues to grow.”

The FEC Christmas Train is a 501c3, s...   [Read More]

Jags Make It Three In A Row At The Bank

The Jacksonville Jaguars dominated the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 30-10. Blake Bortles led the Jacksonville offense with over 300 passing yards and 2 TDs in the air. BB5 performance helped to overcome a sluggish Jaguars running game in which the Colts out-rushed the Jags 141-96 yards. However, like most of the Jags wins this season, the Defense put together an elite performance.

Calais Campbell's first quarter sack earned him the Jaguars franchise single season sack record. Jalen Ramsey's (the King of Duval) interception to close out the second half stifled a drive where the Colts could have scored some quick points. Tashuan Gipson earned a second half interception that also stifled another Colts drive in Jaguars' territory. The Defense had problems with the Colts running game and some middle of the field passes, showing that Telvin Smith's absence might be a problem if it is a long term deal.

Regardless, let's make this clear: Your Jacksonville Jaguars have won eight games this season. Yesterday's win guaranteed that the Jaguars will not have a losing season for the first time since 2010. Think about this: Did any of us truly believe this team would even win 6 games th...   [Read More]

The Navy Football Team Will Be Wearing Blue Angels Inspired Uniforms In It's Game With Army

The Navy football team will be wearing Blue Angels-inspired uniforms for the 2017 Army-Navy game on Dec. 9 in Philadelphia. It will be the 118th Army-Navy Game!

The uniform includes hand-painted helmets depicting six F/A-18 Hornets in delta formation, as well as a chrome face mask to mimic the visors worn by Blue Angel pilots.

“Although the uniform departs from our customary characteristics, this tribute to the Blue Angels reflects the enthusiastic pride and appreciation we have for the Navy’s premier flying team and the motivation they convey to Navy football and the fleet at large,” Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk said in a Navy release. “The masterminds at Under Armour are always thinking of ways to inspire our troops while still reflecting a deep appreciation for a Naval history that is so ingrained in our game day traditions. Annually, a special Navy uniform has become a statement in this game and brings with it appreciated meaning and a clear message that we are all in.”

Under Armour became the school’s official uniform supplier four years ago and every year, Under Armour has made a specialized uniform for the Navy game against Army.

Conor Oberst set to perform with Dawes at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL--(Tuesday, February 11, 2014) —  Indie Rock singer-songwriter Conor Oberst will perform at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall with Dawes on Tuesday, May 13 at 8:00PM.

With his trembling voice, acoustic guitar, and confessional approach to songwriting, Conor Oberst played an important role in shaping the lighter, intimate side of indie rock during the late-'90s and beyond. His main project was Bright Eyes, an eclectic group of rotating musicians that vacillated between pop, folk, electronica, and country-rock. Although Oberst remained at the center of that band, he also logged time in a number of other outfits, including Commander Venus, Monsters of Folk, the Magentas, Park Ave., Desaparecidos, and an early version of the Faint. Finally, he supported like-minded artists on an executive level, co-founding Saddle Creek Records in the '90s and launching his own label, Team Love, in 2003.

Recorded in a makeshift studio with a cast of musicians dubbed the Mystic Valley Band, the self-titled Conor Oberst arrived in 2008. While on the road in support of that album, the Mystic Valley Band found time to compose another album, this time highlighting the band's collaborative spirit. Released in 2009, Outer South feat...   [Read More]

Styx, Foreigner, & Don Felder Coming to St. Augustine

St. Augustine, FL (February 4, 2014) – Styx returns to perform at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Friday, May 23, 2014 with Foreigner and Don Felder. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, February 7 at 10am.

Tommy Shaw, James “JY” Young, Lawrence Gowan, Todd Sucherman and Ricky Phillips, have performed more live since ’99 than all of the previous years of its career combined.  Two Super-Bowl appearances, two more studio albums and no end in sight, STYX continues to conquer the planet, one venue at a time.

Spawned from a suburban Chicago basement in the early ‘70s, Styx would eventually transform into the virtual arena rock prototype by the late '70s and early '80s, due to a fondness for big rockers and soaring power ballads. Paradise Theater became Styx's biggest hit of their career (selling over three million copies in a three-year period), as they became one of the U.S. top rock acts due to such big hit singles as "Too Much Time on My Hands".  It also marked the first time in history that a band released four consecutive triple-platinum albums.

With ten multi-platinum albums and sixteen Top 30 hits, Foreigner is universally hailed as one of the most popular rock...   [Read More]

Robert Cray Band To Perform At The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL--(Monday, February 3, 2014) — Blues guitarist and five-time GRAMMY award winning artist Robert Cray Band will perform at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall on Friday, April 4 at 8:00PM.

The five-time Grammy Award winner summarized 35 years of mastery on the debut Nozzle release Live From Across the Pond (2006), an electrifying two-CD concert set drawn from a series of shows (opening for Eric Clapton) at London’s Royal Albert Hall. When the time came to follow up that widely praised collection with a studio recording, Cray viewed it as an opportunity to move his sound in other directions.

He found exactly what he was looking for by turning to one of his oldest friends and colleagues: bassist Richard Cousins, whose tenure with the Robert Cray Band began with its barnstorming regional origins in Eugene, Oregon, in 1974 and extended through 1991, encompassing such early high-water marks as Strong Persuader (1986) and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (1988), both winners of the best contemporary blues performance Grammy.

I’ve known Richard for 40 years,” Cray says. “We go back to 1969, and we grew up in the same area together. We’ve always had a really good rapport together stage...   [Read More]

    New Weekly Boating Blog

Welcome to the Lisa the Boatanista blog

So many waterways, so little time.

For most of my professional life, I struggled to find a workable balance between the demands of career and simply wanting to be out on my boat.

    What’s a girl to do?

For years, as a sales executive for BellSouth, I would make business trips across Florida while hauling a boat and trailer. My job required me to spend many hours inside office buildings and conference rooms but my passion was to be outside those four walls, basking in the sun, out on the water.

Balancing work and recreation was often an exercise in frustration. My life could certainly be summed up in the common lament of many career people: I was working to live and not living to work. But early retirement was no long-term solution. Owning a boat is not much fun if you cannot afford gas.

Certainly, there had to be a way to make a living doing something I love, something involving water and boats and the great outdoors.

Unfortunately for me, though I am the daughter of two professional skiers, I am beyond the age when Cypress Gardens might be calling for a new star performer.

But I found another career opportunit...   [Read More]
