Jacksonville National Cemetery Volunteers Are Placing Thousands Of American Flags On Graves For The Memorial Day Observance.
Thousands of American flags are being placed on graves at the Jacksonville National Cemetery to honor fallen members of the armed forces. The headstones are in formation marking the final resting places for men and women who served in the U.S. armed forces.
According to official records. The cemetery near the northern border of Duval County grows by nearly 50 new gravesites each week, adding to the 12,500 veterans who have been buried there since the first burial in 2009. Every year, people from all over our area head to the cemetery on the Northside and plant flags at each and grave to make sure the fallen aren't forgotten.
Volunteers do this every year for Memorial Day and then again at Christmas, when they place wreaths at every headstone. There is a group of volunteers called the Jacksonville Ladies who have been there from the start. They offer condolences to loved ones when they are present and stand as silent witnesses to honor the deceased when no one else is there.
The “Jacksonville Ladies” started meeting in November 2008 and were present for the first interments that began on January 7, 2009. This non-profit Volunteer program shadows the Arlington Ladies, a Volunteer group of military w... [Read More]

Jacksonville Fair Entertainment Recap
The Jacksonville Agricultural Fair began on Wednesday and started off with Craig Morgan performing on Thursday, and on Friday the Fall Free Gator Country concert series. Craig Morgan has performed recently at the Jacksonville Landing in July and has always put on a great show. A source says that Craig Morgan performed amazing on Thursday Night and brought in a big crowd for the fair’s concert series kick off. He is known for his favorite songs, “International Harvester”, “I Got You”, and his newest song “Waking Up Lovin You”.
The next night the concert series continued on with the newest duo in country music “American Young”. This country duo is led by Jon Stone and Kristy Osmunson. They’re recent single “Love Is War” is played quite often on 99.9 Gator Country. I actually like this song for its soft sound and meaningful lyrics. The girl in the band Kristy Osmunson started out in a duo called Bomshel that began in 2006. Their songs that were hits were “Fight Like a Girl”, “19 and Crazy”, and “Power of One”. After her first band she had joined forces with Jon Stone and helped his form American Young. I think this new duo has a lot of potent... [Read More]
