Riverside Avondale Preservation's 34th Annual Luminaria

Luminaria is one of Riverside and Avondale’s premier celebrations. The event was established by local volunteers as a way for neighbors to commemorate the season by walking amongst the sidewalk candles to a social event with friends. Over 20,000 candles will be on display throughout the historic district.

Since its founding in 1974, RAP has been an advocate for active preservation of our neighborhood’s historical assets. The challenge of balancing preservation with progress is an enduring one. When historic buildings are allowed to deteriorate or are torn down, or when our historical street grid is eliminated, a part of our past disappears forever. When that happens, we lose history that helps us know who we are, and we lose opportunities to live and work in the kinds of interesting and attractive surroundings that older buildings provide.

As a response to this need, the organization’s board and staff work with residents, businesses, the city planning and zoning departments, and like preservation groups in the state to ensure that our history and the traces of our cultural heritage remain intact.

Riverside Avondale Preservation, Inc. (RAP) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance and preserve...   [Read More]

MC Wale Previews Florida - Georgia

JACKSONVILLE, FL - It is that time of the year again: the RV's are pulling into Jacksonville, the trash talk over the airwaves and social media has started, and the invitations to tailgate parties are being shared as the entire city preps itself for one of the most exciting weekends in Jacksonville. The Florida-Georgia game, also known as the World's Largest Cocktail Party, is always a good time, although there seems to be a little less luster on this year's matchup due to the status of the two teams at this point of the season.

The Florida Gators (4-3) and the Georgia Bulldogs (4-3) both entered this season with their eyes focused on Atlanta and the SEC championship. Both teams have very slim chances of making that goal a reality with both teams having two losses in the conference. Georgia specifically has been dealing with a ton of injuries on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Georgia is expected to have running back Todd Gurley, which should help quarterback Aaron Murray and their 25th ranked passing attack balance out the rest of their offense.

    Jaguars Vs Chargers Pregame Report

JACKSONVILLE FL - If there ever was such a thing as a moral victory in football, the Jacksonville Jaguars would have achieved that during the game against the Denver Broncos. The game was competitive most of the way through, the defense made big plays and the offense was able to move the ball. Sure they still lost 35-19, but it has given hope to the fans in this city that he Jaguars might be able to win a few games his year, provided that the game last week wasn't just a fluke.

The Jaguars (0-6) will square off against the San Diego Chargers (3-3) at Everbank Field Sunday. The Chargers come into this game after a close win against the Indianapolis Colts last Monday night and are on a short week. Quarterback Phillip Rivers had a decent game, throwing for 237 yards and a touchdown in the game against the Colts. The Chargers had a solid running game too, rushing for 147 yards. Jacksonville's offense will be without some play makers this week as wide receivers Ace Sanders and Stephen Burton are out with concussions. Cecil Shorts III is questionable with a shoulder injury, but should be expected to play through the pain. The Jaguars are expected to have tight end Marcedes Lewis back to play this week, after re-tweaking a c...   [Read More]
