    Rodney Atkins at Mavericks Recap

Jacksonville FL - On January 25, 2014, Mavericks hosted Rodney Atkins who performed in front of lots of his fans. Braving the cold weather, many people came out to see this performer. Before the country singer went on to perform, two opening acts took the stage to get the crowd warmed up:  Rose Falcon and Frankie Ballad.

Each of them was great in their performances. Frankie Ballad got the crowd going with his hits, “Bunch of Girls” and his newest song “Helluva Ride”. Frankie also played a cover of John Mellencamp’s song “Ain’t That America”.  Personally, I liked his music; he had some great songs and was no stranger to Mavericks as he performed there last year. He also has a new album that will be released next month.  As for Rose Falcon, she is new to country music and is also Rodney Atkins’ wife.  An interesting fact is that if you were an Inspector Gadget movie fan back in 2003, she played a song for the second Inspector Gadget movie. That was the first time she was introduced as a pop singer. Now that she’s a country singer and starting over, it seems she’s ready for a country music career.

Darius Rucker with Eli Young Band and Corey Smith Coming To St. Augustine

St. Augustine, FL (January 20, 2014) –Darius Rucker returns to perform at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre with Eli Young Band and Corey Smith on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Darius Rucker previously performed at the Amphitheatre on October 29, 2010.

Rucker, who first attained multi-platinum status as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Hootie & the Blowfish, wrote ten of the twelve tracks on True Believers - ranging from his current single, the feel-good, sing-along, "Radio" to the sophisticated narrative of "Shine." He expresses special pride in the raw and realistic sentiments of songs like "Miss You" and "I Will Love You Still," a duet with young powerhouse vocalist Mallary Hope.

The two songs Rucker didn't have a hand in writing are both major events of their own. "Love Without You" features Sheryl Crow, with whom Rucker had wanted to record ever since they sang together at a VH1 function almost twenty years ago. For his version of the popular Old Crow Medicine Show song "Wagon Wheel," initially based on a sketch by Bob Dylan, Rucker, never expecting them to say yes, invited his tour partners and Capitol Records labelmates Lady Antebellum into the studio. When they came...   [Read More]

New Lounge - The Volstead Opens Downtown

The Volstead joins Downtown Jacksonville right in time for 2014. Indulge in decadent bourbon, whiskey, and scotch on the top shelf, and try their classic cocktails made with a unique twist. Great drinks start with great ingredients, and aren’t we glad that we aren’t faced with the challenges that Prohibition brought to this nation.

“The Volstead” gets its name from The Volstead Act, which enacted Prohibition in the United States in late 1919. The act was later repealed in 1933, but the era would forever leave its mark on history. Some of histories most colorful personalities were players in bootlegging operations, and to this day bars still carry on the tradition.

Jacksonville Florida pre-prohibition was a beautiful, bustling city where people came to achieve their dreams; designed to be the original site of Hollywood where the stars and starlets of the era came to spend their time.

As the decade progressed the nation fell on hard times, Congressman Andrew Volstead chalked up the bill to eradicate the production and sale of liquor throughout the United States. As liquor became more scarece, people became craftier in finding ways to get hooch into the country. Due to the prime waterfront ...   [Read More]
