“Fabulous good-time romps…The pleasure is infectious.” –Blues & Rhythm
A lot has happened since guitar legend Elvin Bishop released his last album, 2014’s Grammy-nominated Can’t Even Do Wrong Right. He was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, and soon after into the Blues Hall Of Fame. He won the Living Blues Award for Best Blues Album Of 2014 and three 2014 Blues Music Awards: Album of the Year, Song of the Year (for the title track) and The Elvin Bishop Band took the award for Band of the Year.
Now, Elvin—along with his friends, guitarist/pianist Bob Welsh and percussionist/vocalist Willy Jordan—launches The Big Fun Trio. Preparing for one of the first live gigs with his new trio, Bishop told The San Jose Mercury News, “Every time I pick up the guitar, something new comes out of it. I guess you’d call me a late bloomer. When you get to be my age, you’re not expecting to be progressing or coming up ... [Read More]
Northern St Johns County Welcomes Beachwalk
A new community in Northern St. Johns County called Beachwalk will have residents living there before the year ends. Beachwalk is planned to be an upscale neighborhood anchored by what is essentially a 14-acre swimming pool. Plenty of work has already been done, and developer John Kinsey and others associated with the development were in town Thursday for the official groundbreaking ceremony. The enormous Crystal Lagoon has been dug out and is taking shape. Water should fill the Lagoon as soon as July of this year with residents living around it by fall.
The project being done by Art Falcone’s Encore Capital Management and Kinsey’s Twin Creeks Development, brings a man made lagoon into the project and makes it part of the unique character of the community. The architecture, landscaping and amenities will be different from any other community in the area. It will offer a beach vibe with palm trees rather than live oaks and sandy beaches around the lagoon.
Kinsey stated that it is a departure from what you see everywhere you go. Working on the whole idea of Beachwalk two years ago, Art and Kinsey came to the conclusion pretty quickly that this area didn’t need more of what was being built and sold in every other community. There i... [Read More]
Chuy's Opens At The Strand At Town Center
Chuy’s, opened last Tuesday at The Strand at Town Center. It’s address is 4914 Town Center Parkway which is across the street from The Markets.
The TexMex restaurant has eight locations in Florida and has 10 made-from-scratch signature sauces, Big As Yo’ Face Burritos and hand-rolled tortillas.
Chuy's opened on April 16, 1982 in an old, abandoned Texas Barbeque joint on iconic Barton Springs Road in Austin, TX. There was seating for about sixty, a women's restroom the size of a broom closet and a men's restroom that was, well, outside. Founders Mike Young and John Zapp had a vision of a fun and funky Tex-Mex restaurant that served authentic and fresh food in an atmosphere that appealed to everyone. From these humble beginnings Chuy's was born.
Chuy's is known for its authentic, fresh food and fun, eclectic atmosphere. This Town Center location will be its first one in Jacksonville. Almost everything is made from scratch in the giant kitchen, and the 800-degree comal where fresh tortillas are constantly rolled out. The queso, guacamole and green chile are all great.
Their store hours are:
Sun - Thurs 11am to 10pm
Fri - Sat 11am to 11pm... [Read More]

Sports Update - Jaguars Game Tomorrow
Jacksonville Fl - The Jacksonville Jaguars open up the 2013 regular season at home against the Kansas City Chiefs. It's been a long and interesting off-season for the Jaguars. Out with old GM Gene Smith and Head Coach Mike Mularkey, and in with a new regime with GM Dave Caldwell and first-time head coach Gus Bradley. This team has overhauled its roster, change its philosophy, and has made it through training camp. Now the real games begin. The Jaguars' opponents, the Kansas City Chiefs, have undergone some major changes as well. New Head Coach Andy Reid is at the helm and he mad e the move to trade for San Francisco 49'ers QB Alex Smith, who is their immediate future. With a team that appears to be loaded with talent on the defensive side of the ball and a dangerous running back in Jamal Charles, it appears the Jaguars have an uphill battle. As a fan, it's tough to think that your team is really as bad as it is. And the Jaguars have a lot to do to see long-term success, but I feel that if the Jags can do these three things on Sunday afternoon, the team and the fans will walk out with a win. Offense- Jaguars need a minimum of 325 yards of offense. Blaine Gabbert appears to be the starter coming into thi... [Read More]

Jaguars Vs Falcons - Top 5 Guys To Watch
Atlanta Ga - The Jacksonville Jaguars will face-off against the Atlanta Falcons tonight in the fourth and final preseason game. Both teams will have limited action from their starters, so the biggest question is "Why watch the game? It doesn't mean anything". And you would be correct, but I'm going to give you five players to keep an eye out on tonight.
1. DE Andre Branch The second-year player was supposed to be the ideal guy to fit head coach Gus Bradley's Leo position in his defensive scheme. He hasn't done much of anything during training camp and even less in the games. Although it is unlikely to see a second-round pick cut after one year, if he doesn't do something to show the staff that he's worth keeping, tonight may be the last time you see Branch in a Jaguars uniform.
2. TE Allen Reisner Starting TE Marcedes Lewis has been limited in the past two games, which has given Allen Reisner an oppor... [Read More]
Jaguars Vs Eagles Recap
Jacksonville Fl - The Jacksonville Jaguars lost against the Philadelphia Eagles 31-24. The third preseason game is usually the most important game to see how a team looks and how everything operates and even though the Jaguars lost, there's a lot of positives to take from the game. Chad Henne played ok, but the offense looks good. Henne's first drive went 90 yards and hit WR Justin Blackmon for a 17-yard touchdown. Then on a later drive, Henne hit TE Allen Reisner for an 8-yard touchdown. Photo Courtesy: JaguarsThe running game looks STRONG. Jordan Todman rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown, that included a 63-yard explosive touchdown run. Denard Robinson had 7 carries and 33 yards, but he looked decisive and can be very dangerous. Pass rush flashed, but still not where it needs to be. The defense had two sacks, but also a few QB hurries as well. Eagles QB Michael Vick did not look comfortable and was flushed out of the pocket a few times throughout the night. Photo Courtesy: JaguarsThe Jacksonville defense also cause 3 turnovers; One interception and two forced fumbles. The Jaguars have to capitalize on turnovers and turn them into point. The Jaguars final preseason game is on Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons and by Monday morning,... [Read More]
Steve Miller Band with guests Los Lonely Boys April 2nd at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre!
Steve Miller was a mainstay of the San Francisco music scene that upended American culture in the late ‘60s. with albums like Children of the Future, Sailor and Brave New World, Miller perfected a psychedelic blues sound that drew on the deepest sources of American roots music and simultaneously articulated a compelling vision of what music - and society - could be in the years to come. Then, in the ‘70s, Miller crafted a brand of rock ‘n’ roll music that was polished, exciting and irresistible, and that has dominated radio through today. Hit followed hit in what seemed like an endless flow: “The Joker,” “Livin’ in the USA,” “Take the Money and Run,” “Rock’n Me,” “Fly Like an Eagle,” “Jet Airliner,” “Jungle Love,” and “Abracadabra” among them. To this day, these songs are instantly recognizable when they come on the radio – and impossible not to sing along with. Running through Miller’s catalogue is a combination of virtuosity and songcraft along with melodic vocals and signature guitar riffs. His parents were jazz aficionados – Les Paul was his godfather – so as a budding guitarist and singer, Mill... [Read More]

Gator Country Fall Concert Series Recap
Jacksonville, FL (November 19) From November 5 to November 16, the Jacksonville Fair arrived and provided fair-goers many shows during the two weeks. The Gator Country Concert Series also came onto the scene. It all started on Thursday November 6 with Thompson Square to kick off the concert. They opened their show with their hit song “I Got You” and performed with excellence and energy. They played their best songs such as “Let’s Fight”, ”I Can’t Outrun You”, “Glass”, “If I Didn’t Have You”, and “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not”. I found their show great and a great start to the concert series.
The next day was not what was expected. With a cold front coming in, many people didn’t show up to see Lindsay Ell. She is a new upcoming country artist from Canada, and was an awesome guitar player. I do wish for more female guitar pickers, and this was something new for Jacksonville. Her performance was great, and she can rock out on a guitar. Her songs that got her on country radio are “Shut Me Up”, and “Trippin on Us”. I hope she comes back when the weather is better so everybody can see how awesome she is.

Historic Main Street Cruise Being Forced To Shut Down
The monthly Historic Springfield Main Street Cruise is being forced to shut down due to city red tape. The event has been happening for over 2 years now and John Wells, a representative from the event has spoken out to why it is being canceled:
"I've been asked to explain what has happened: The city has several stages that they rent out. The only problem is that it's a nightmare trying to get one for the average person. The biggest problem is that when you place the application and post the insurance they won't give you an answer if you are lacking anything. Last year when we rented the stage for the BIG ENGINE show, we were right up to the last day trying to find out if they were going to let us have the stage. Others who have rented these stages have told the same story. One told me they laid some new crap on her 3 hours before the stage was supposed to be delivered and she was jumping through her butt trying to satisfy them. There continue to be new requirements ALL the time. You can't put on a show like this. How can you plan anything if you don't know if you have a stage? This year I was not going to let this happen again. I started out well in advance and reserved one of the stages and filed the application and was to... [Read More]
The Summer Boating Season is now underway – Get out on the water today!
The kids are out of school and summer is official underway, are you ready to go boating? We are lucky to live here in Northeast Florida where we have plenty of waterways to choose from; the St. Johns River, Intracoastal Waterway, Atlantic Ocean, and a multitude of creeks and tributaries. So why not grab your family and get out on a boat this summer? It is the perfect way to connect with your kids and have a ton of fun!
I recommend the boating lifestyle to all families and not just because I am in the boating business. I grew up with parents who were competitive water skiers at Cypress Gardens and always being on a boat together strengthened our bond. Nowadays, the distractions are everywhere – smartphones, tablets, ipads, video game systems, you name it – but when you are on a boat you have the opportunity to unplug and focus on your time together.
Having fun is what summer is all about! You can swim, fish, water-ski, wakeboard, all things you can’t do if you aren’t on the water. There are also plenty of art, science or music projects you can conduct on the water. The important part is being together with no schedule, few distractions, and a focus on the family.
