The Jaguars' Home Stadium Will Have A New Name Next Season

EverBank Field will be known as TIAA Bank Field later this year. They team confirmed today that TIAA Bank Field will be the official name of its home stadium, replacing EverBank Field.

The name change comes after the sale of EverBank to TIAA in June and the new parent company will be renaming all EverBank locations as TIAA Bank.

The name change must be officially approved by the city of Jacksonville and the Jaguars before they can tear down the signage on the front of the building and replace it with the new name.

Even though the name change was announced today, there were no details immediately available about who will be paying to change the signage. It is expected that the name change will be made by the upcoming Jaguars preseason.

Jacksonville-based EverBank acquired the naming rights to the stadium in 2010, four years after the naming rights deal with Alltel lapsed. (The stadium was known as Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in the interim.) In 2014, the company extended its naming rights deal through 2024.

European Street Cafe Reopens After Hurricane Irma Damage Repairs

The European Street Café in San Marco that was damaged by Hurricane Irma floodwaters in September has undergone extensive restoration and is now reopened.

The restaurant building was left standing in two feet of water. Most of the walls, counters, appliances, parts of the ceiling, and décor has been replaced. Renovations at the European Street Cafe at 1704 San Marco Blvd. cost about $650,000.

The renovations, which took almost five months, left the cafe layout about the same but with a face-lifted decor in purple and yellow. Larger tables have been installed as well as new windows, ceilings, light fixtures, kitchen equipment and televisions.

European Street Cafe, encompasses four restaurants throughout Jacksonville. The Riverside location opened in August 1992, San Marco in August 1996, Beach Blvd. in March 1999 and Jacksonville Beach in 2005.

Many things have changed at European Street Cafe over the decades. The menu has expanded to include more than 100+ items—sandwiches, soup, salads and appetizers—with a variety of vegetarian and vegan options.

The 2018 Winter Olympics Is Ready To Begin

NBC will present 176 hours of live coverage, and its primetime coverage begins on Thursday, N Feb. 8, at 8 p.m. ET, and concludes with the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 25.

The entire slate of Winter Games competition will be broadcast across various NBC platforms from Feb. 8-25, with some curling and the Opening Ceremony coming first. (Note: The ceremony will actually be seen Friday, Feb. 9, at 6 a.m. Eastern -- or at 8 p.m., replayed -- for those watching in the United States.)

If you're talking times specifically, you'll want to note that, since the Olympics will be broadcast live from South Korea, there will be a 14-hour difference between local time and Eastern time.

For the first time, TV viewers in all US time zones will have access to live coverage of the Games, instead of a delayed replay.

The host city this time is Pyeongchang, South Korea. Opening and closing ceremonies will be housed at PyeongChang Olympic Stadium, a temporary structure with capacity for 35,000 spectators.

The city is about 80 miles (125 kilometers) east of Seoul and about 60 miles south of the Demilitarized Zone that separated North and South Korea. A train between Seoul and Pyeongchang takes about 90 minutes. This will be the...   [Read More]

Jaguars Add Two Veteran Coaches To Staff

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley announced today the hiring of Greg Olson as offensive coordinator and Doug Marrone as assistant head coach-offense/offensive line coach.

“I’m really excited about the additions of Greg Olson and Doug Marrone to our coaching staff,” Bradley said. “We always talk about wanting a great fit for our team and that also includes our coaching staff. Chili Cookoff In Jax Beach This February

On February 7, 2015 the J.L. Wiley Foundation for stroke awareness and healthcare advocacy will be celebrating chili once more with their third annual Chili Cook Off. Come out to the Jacksonville Beach Community Center from 4 to 7 and register your vote for the best chili from local amateurs and professionals. Can Sawgrass Country Club and Mark Duren defend their Chili Master titles?

The band 'Working for Crazy' will be playing some great music and there will be dancing along with a silent auction and raffle items.

The J.L. Wiley Foundation was founded in 2010 by the Wiley family after experiencing a stroke in their family, to make people more aware of the risk of stroke and the ways that it can be prevented. Our first goal is better stroke awareness and treatment. We never would have imagined that Joe would have had a stroke. We didn’t know any of the warning signs that in retrospect were present as much as several days before. We have come to realize that while your risk of suffering a stroke increases with your age that it still can strike people of any age.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.jlwileyfoundation.com.

It's back: Coca-Cola reintroduces Surge soda

Fans thirsty for a taste of ‘90s nostalgia – or those who are simply craving a citrus-flavored sparkling beverage with a kick – can rejoice in the news that SURGE is back after a 12-year hiatus.

SURGE, which debuted in 1996 and was taken off the market in the early 2000s, is making a comeback thanks, in part, to a passionate and persistent community of brand loyalists who have been lobbying The Coca-Cola Company to bring back their favorite drink over the last few years. SURGE is Coke’s first discontinued brand to return to the market.

The SURGE re-launch represents two additional firsts for Coke. The brand, which will be offered in its original formula in 12-packs of 16-oz. cans featuring the same retro design from yesteryear, is part of an innovative distribution deal between Coca-Cola and Amazon. A limited supply of SURGE will be sold exclusively through the online retailer atwww.amazon.com/surge, marking the first time Coke has distributed a product solely through e-commerce.

“If expectations are met, this may be only the first of a variety of efforts we explore to launch niche products through e-commerce relationships,” said Wendy Clark, president of sparkling and strateg...   [Read More]

The menu selections will be 30 cents for Coke products, 75 cents for Michelob, Budweiser or PBR and $2.50 for a small cheese pizza.

Mellow Mushroom will also be hosting a contest for customers to win a trip to Amsterdam for two. Haunted: The Florida Theatre

There’s a building Downtown some believe is haunted. In three years’ time, three different ghost-hunting expeditions spent nights there – and one expedition detected something: An apparition of a body sitting in balcony chair.

That apparition was detected at the Florida Theatre, one of Downtown’s most beautiful historic landmarks. If the walls of the Florida Theatre could talk, there would be some amazing stories to tell. Lucky for us, though, the Florida Theatre staff offers tours to the public. We had the opportunity to do so at a recent First Wednesday Art Walk.

This tour explores the stage, backstage, the “green room,” dressing rooms, the promenade, the Barnett Room and the balcony. It’s awe-inspiring from start to finish. Here are a few fun facts about the venue that fascinate us most:

Elvis Presley performed at the Florida Theatre in 1956, one of his first headline concerts appearances on an indoor stage. The performance was the subject of a LIFE Magazine feature, and a local judge sat through the concert to make sure Presley’s dancing was not too suggestive. When the Florida Theatre opened in 1927 as a movie theater, Forsyth Street was known as &...   [Read More]
