Despite Florida having its alligators living in the state, they usually prefer to stay clear of these busy areas. However, its always wise to stay alert and aware of your surroundings when exploring anywhere in Florida.

Super Bowl XLV III Game Day Predictions

The 2013 NFL season will conclude tonight with one of the biggest events in the entire world, Super Bowl XLV III. Finally, the two weeks of talk and fluff will end and will finally see if this game will live up to the hype. Out of the AFC, the Denver Broncos (13-3) and the #1 offense in the league will play against the NFC champion Seattle Seahawks (13-3) and their number #1 ranked defense. Six times we’ve seen two #1 teams match up like this in the title game and 5 out of 6 times, the team with the #1 defense wins the game. Will that be the case tonight?

Let’s look at the Broncos. The Broncos have weapons all over that offense, starting with the best quarterback I’ve ever seen in my life, Peyton Manning. Demaryious Thomas, Julius Thomas, Wes Welker, Knowshon Moreno, and Eric Decker are going to give the Seahawks secondary fits as it’s going to be a tough task to cover them all. Also, the Bronco’s defense has been playing very well during the playoffs with the play of defensive tackle (and former Jacksonville Jaguar) Terrance Knighton, who has been a nightmare stopping the run and creating interior pressure on pass rush plays.

Moving on to the Seahawks. We are all well aware of how good and how fast ...   [Read More]

Healthy Soup Options During the Cold and Flu Season

The variations of soups are endless given the number of different proteins, grains and vegetables one could choose. Soup is oh so nourishing and it provides hydration, electrolytes, and energy for your body. A warm cup of soup is often the go-to food of choice if you unfortunately fall ill during cold and flu season. But are all soups healthy?

Though comforting, soup typically has a high sodium content. One Cup of canned soup often has anywhere from 480 to 890 milligrams of sodium; this can reach up to 38% of the recommended maximum daily allowance of 2300 milligrams.

If cream is used as the foundation for soup, such as in a bisque or chowder, the fat content may rise above 10 grams per cup; that’s 90 calories from fat! So how does one justify enjoying this simple dish while still meeting healthy standards?

One option is to cook from scratch; by doing this you can replace the salt with herbs and spices. The outcome can be successful if you are comfortable in the kitchen or following a great recipe. Unfortunately for me, I tried this myself and results were inconsistent; sometimes very flavorful and other times my soup was quite watery. Another alternative for healthy people without kidney issues is to use a potassium based salt su...   [Read More]

Classic Hard Rock Trio The Winery Dogs Coming To Ponte Vedra

Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (May 11, 2015) — The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall welcomes classic hard rock trio The Winery Dogs on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. Tickets go on sale to the public this Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m.

It would be easy to call The Winery Dogs a supergroup: Vocalist and guitarist Richie Kotzen made his mark with Poison and Mr. Big, bassist Billy Sheehan has been rocking for decades with Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big and others, and drummer Mike Portnoy was the co-founder of progressive metal superstars Dream Theater. But The Winery Dogs are so much more than a supergroup. Supergroups are usually short-lived entities composed of gifted players that jam out for little while and then quickly record with the hopes of catching lightning in a bottle. That's certainly not the case with The Winery Dogs, a cohesive, well-rounded classic-sounding trio with blazing songs that defy expectation. The group’s self-titled debut is filled with straightforward rock and roll inspired by some of their favorite bands, and their music transcends any of the styles they're best known for.

“We all have our own distinct voicings and styles, but we also have a common ground of music we grew up listening to,&rdquo...   [Read More]

Little Big Town Coming To St Augustine Amitheatre

St. Augustine, Fla. (April 27, 2015) – The St. Augustine Amphitheatre proudly welcomes contemporary country quartet and 2015 ACM Awards Vocal Group of the Year, Little Big Town, on Saturday, October 17, 2015. Tickets will go on sale to the general public this Friday, May 1 at 10 a.m.

The country vocal quartet Little Big Town features Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Jimi Westbrook and Kimberly Schlapman. The quartet began with Kimberly and Karen, two Georgia natives who began singing together in college. Arkansas-born and Alabama-raised Jimi Westbrook, a friend of Fairchild's husband, joined them to make a trio, and the group was completed by the addition of Arkansan Phil Sweet in 1998. From the outset, Little Big Town devoted their sound to harmony and multiple lead vocals, a combination that made the band a hard sell at first. They finally landed a deal at Mercury Records, but it fell through due to disagreements about musical direction. In the wake of the success of the Dixie Chicks, however, Little Big Town were taken up by the Dixie Chicks' label, Monument Records in 2000 and Monument issued the band's debut single, "Don't Waste My Time," in the winter of 2002. The song was on its way up the charts when its accomp...   [Read More]

Thanksgiving Day Block Party @ Pete's Bar in Neptune Beach

Neptune Beach Fla - What started as one lonesome bartender has evolved into a beaches tradition that many depend on as part of their holiday routine. Thirty years ago, one bartender was working on Thanksgiving Day and called his friends to keep him company. The friends showed up, along with the bartenders’ relatives and the rest is history.

Year after year, speculation always surrounds Thanksgiving Day at Pete’s Bar – is it happening? Is security cracking down? Can you bring drinks into the area? The reason for speculation is a result of how big the celebration has become. According to Nancy Jensen, owner and granddaughter of original owner, Peter B. Jensen, Thanksgiving Day at Pete’s started getting big 5 years ago. “We advertised the first couple of years, but now its word of mouth. We’re also open Christmas Day since a lot of people want to congregate at the bar if their family is out of town and the help is always voluntary.”

If you’re planning to attend this year’s Thanksgiving Day at Pete’s, leave your Bloody Mary at home and follow these simple steps: •    Pay attention to entry points – the area will be barricaded off ...   [Read More]
