South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen And American Kyle Stanley Are Tied For The Lead At The Players Championship After 36 Holes

At nine-under, South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen and American Kyle Stanley are tied for the lead at golf’s unofficial fifth major with JB Holmes a shot behind, followed by veteran Vijay Singh at seven-under at the halfway point of the Players Championship.

Adam Scott battled a misbehaving putter to remain in the mix at two-under. After leading the field in putting during the first round, the 36-year-old missed a series of short putts but scrapped for an even-par 72. But Scott remained positive about his score on a brutal Sawgrass set-up. Phil Mickelson and Jason Day finished at 2 under par. Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia and Dustin Johnson finished at even par for the 36 holes.

Meanwhile, four-time major winner Rory McIlroy will undergo an MRI in Belfast on Monday after aggravating an injury that had kept him on the sidelines for seven weeks earlier this year. McIlroy shot a 71 today to make the cut with an even-par total.

Jordan Spieth struggled for the second consecutive day at the Players Championship on Friday, shooting a second-round, three-over 75 to miss the cut at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Spieth finished the tournament at four-over and accomp...   [Read More]

The Blind Rabbit Closes Their Riverside Location

A popular restaurant on King Street in Riverside locked its doors Sunday without any advanced notice or explanation. The Blind Rabbit, located at 901 King Street posted a sign on the front door Monday stating that the business had closed and telling customers to visit the restaurant's Jacksonville Beach location.

On Sunday afternoon, the Blind Rabbit posted on its Facebook page, "After 5 years we are saying good bye to Riverside today after brunch! Thank you for all the support over the years you will be missed. Come visit our Jax beach location! “

Back in July of 2015, an employee of the restaurant, 20-year-old Daniel Rowe, was shot and killed while taking out the garbage. Police described this as a robbery attempt and Erron Coleman has been charged with Rowe's murder, along with armed robbery, burglary and weapons charges.

No one knows if that incident had anything to do with the sudden closure of the whiskey and burger bar that had been known for its crowds. Their website still has both locations listed as open.

The Homestead Restaurant Is Returning To Jacksonville Beach This Summer

Former Homestead chef Bo Johns has announced his plans to open the previously closed Homestead Restaurant at a new location this summer in Jacksonville Beach. The Homestead officially closed at the end of December 2010 and their previous location at 1712 Beach Blvd. is now the Taco Lu Mexican restaurant.

Mr. Johns said that the new restaurant will be located at 904 Sixth Ave. S where Parson’s Seafood Restaurant, an area staple for more than 50 years, had closed last year.

Johns said the restaurant menu will be identical to when former owner Steve Macri operated the restaurant. “It will be the exact same menu,” he said, citing fried chicken, grouper fingers and blackened steak fingers as a few of the featured items.

The restaurant will boast at least 150 seats, Johns said, including an outdoor patio. He hopes to have the restaurant opened by the end of June.

The old Homestead Restaurant had a long history with the residents of Jacksonville. The original owner, Alpha Paynter was a prominent businesswoman who for decades, owned the Homestead and the Copper Kettle Inn. After Alpha moved to Jacksonville Beach, she constructed the log cabin that would become the Homestead in 1934. Originally a boardi...   [Read More]

UNF Ospreys Face FGCU in a A-Sun Battle

Jaguars football is over and filling its place in my heart is UNF basketball. Yes, the University of North Florida Ospreys are looking to do some damage in the Atlantic Sun Conference and even make this year's NCAA tournament. So far in their 2013-2014 season, the Ospreys are 9-8 on the season, 3-1 in conference play as they host Florida Gulf Coast University (9-7, 3-0 ASun) on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

UNF senior Travis Wallace, who earned A-Sun Player of the Week last week, leads the Ospreys averaging 12.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest. Finishing with 15 points at Northern Kentucky University, Wallace is the ninth UNF player to reach 1,000 career points.

The Ospreys aim to extend the six-game home streak alive from the Eagles, who currently hold a 9-7 all-time lead between the two teams. After Thursday's game, North Florida will wrap up their home game series on Saturday against Stetson.

As a fan, I urge that we get as many people as possible to the game. Tickets for all UNF home basketball games are available at UNF Arena, online or by calling 904-620-BIRD (2473) or ospreytickets@unf.edu. Single game men's ticket prices are $12 Reserved (Sec. 5-14), $10 Adults, $8 (Youth 17-under, Senior Citizens 55+, Acti...   [Read More]

Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. – THE PLAYERS Championship is pleased to announce that its Birdies for Charity program will return for the 2014 tournament, running from January 6 – May 7. Muschamp Hires Roper as Gators' New Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach

GAINESVILLE, Fla. Via Gator Zone - Kurt Roper was one of five finalists this season for the Broyles Award, given annually to the nation's top assistant coach.

Gators coach Will Muschamp and Florida fans would like nothing more than for Roper to repeat as a finalist in 2014.

Muschamp made it official Thursday morning, announcing he has hired Roper as the Gators' new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

"I'm excited to have Coach Roper join our staff," Muschamp said. "He has a diverse, up-tempo background on offense and does a good job of adapting to what the players do best. The most important thing though is he has always remained balanced.

"He has had success calling plays in the SEC and has tutored three NFL quarterbacks. He has had players produce at every offensive position and he is one of the most well-respected coaches in the country."

Roper has spent the last six years as offensive coordinator at Duke under Blue Devils coach David Cutcliffe, a longtime mentor. Roper has worked with Cutcliffe every season but one since 1996 when he joined Tennessee's staff as a graduate assistant and Cutcliffe was the Vols' offensive coordinator.

Indie Folk Artist Mason Jennings Coming To Ponte Vedra

Before setting to work on his 10th studio album, Minnesota-based musician Mason Jennings was looking for a new approach to writing. At the advice of a friend, the singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist holed up in the back room of his wood-nestled cabin studio with just a guitar, electric piano, bookshelf, notebook, tape recorder, and one 90-minute cassette and then wrote all winter long. Emerging with the notebook and tape full of about 30 new songs, Jennings decided to skip his standard approach of self-recording and called on producer Bo Ramsey (Greg Brown, The Pines, Iris DeMent), as well as a wish-list-plucked lineup of guest musicians that includes DeMent and Neil Young drummer Chad Cromwell. The result of those “dream collaborations” and his own hard-won inspiration is the latest album Always Been, Jennings’s most radiant and refined effort of his career. Recorded at Minneapolis studio The Terrarium, Always Been builds on the rugged, acoustic-guitar...   [Read More]
