Thanksgiving Block Party at Pete's is ON!!!
Neptune Beach Fla - What started as one lonesome bartender has evolved into a beaches tradition that many depend on as part of their holiday routine. Thirty years ago, one bartender was working on Thanksgiving Day and called his friends to keep him company. The friends showed up, along with the bartenders’ relatives and the rest is history.
Year after year, speculation always surrounds Thanksgiving Day at Pete’s Bar – is it happening? Is security cracking down? Can you bring drinks into the area? The reason for speculation is a result of how big the celebration has become. According to Nancy Jensen, owner and granddaughter of original owner, Peter B. Jensen, Thanksgiving Day at Pete’s started getting big 5 years ago. “We advertised the first couple of years, but now its word of mouth. We’re also open Christmas Day since a lot of people want to congregate at the bar if their family is out of town and the help is always voluntary.”
If you’re planning to attend this year’s Thanksgiving Day at Pete’s, leave your Bloody Mary at home and follow these simple steps: • Pay attention to entry points – the area will be barricaded off and there will be secu... [Read More]
Learn How You Can Fight a Cold with Food
Here we go again…Cold and flu season is right around the corner, and prevention is the best medicine. But when you already have a bug, getting rid of it and feeling normal again is the goal, right? Well, did you know that you can fight back by eating to boost your immune system? Cold medicines generally only manage symptoms and do not actually cure the illness, but with nutritional support you can supply your immune system with what it needs to help you beat that cold or flu bug.
If taken immediately at the first signs and symptoms of a cold, supplements derived from the Echinacea herb are known to reduce severity and duration. The same is said to be true for a 1,000 mg dose of Vitamin C taken daily. The benefit of taking either supplement may lead to shortening the amount of time you have a cold and/or making it milder.
Boosting certain white blood cells called monocytes and lymphocytes may help rid a cold sooner. White blood cell production is supported by certain vitamins and minerals. The following are good food sources of these nutrients:
Citrus fruit (including orange juice) – folate, Vitamin C
Cocoa – copper
Dark green leafy vegetables – folate, copper, be... [Read More]

Photo Card Gets Make Over
Jacksonville Fl - Just about a month ago, 904 Happy Hour launched a updated and rebranded website. Along with the new website, the creative team released a contest for local artist and graphic designers to have a chance to add their very own touches to the 904 photo card. There were many submissions and the decision was tough but the design chosen was by local graphic designer Meredith Hughes.
"We chose her design because it but was sleek, simple and straight to the point. We were very happy with how the card came out and applaud Meredith graciously for her time she took to create the design." The 904 photo card is distributed every time a photo is taken. Each month, our photographers distribute between 25,000 and 35,000 cards. Besides Meredith's design being chosen and used as the new photo card, she also won a prize pack valued at over $500.
