    Rooftop Bars In Jacksonville

Jacksonville has some great restaurants and bars. The most popular restaurants that people talk about all over town are the rooftop bars. Many people come to these spots to enjoy dinner, have a day out with friends during good weather, dinner under the stars or celebrate a special occasion.

    Intuition Ale Works

Craft beer fans can follow their intuition to the microbrewery and taproom of Intuition Ale Works, whose rooftop bar overlooks the shores of the St. Johns River and offers spectacular views of Downtown and the Jacksonville Jaguars’ EverBank Field. The casual “shorts and a T-shirt” ambience is complemented by delicious craft beers and outdoor live music and rooftop shows.

The taproom is the home of One Off Wednesdays, where each Wednesday an all-new, limited-release beer is tapped and served for an exclusive one-day run. The brewery hosts a kid-friendly Family Game Night complete with a bounce house, cornhole, and video and board games galore. You don’t want to miss the community yoga classes weekly on the rooftop.

Downtown Events This Weekend Impact Traffic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Several events scheduled to take place Thursday through Sunday in downtown Jacksonville will impact traffic, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

Here's what you need to know if you will be attending any of the events or plan to head downtown this weekend:

2017 Total Solar Eclipse On August 21st

On Aug. 21, 2017, people across the United States will see the sun disappear behind the moon, turning daylight into twilight, causing the temperature drop rapidly and revealing massive streamers of light streaking through the sky around the silhouette of the moon. On that day, America will fall under the path of a total solar eclipse .

A total solar eclipse occurs when the disk of the moon appears to completely cover the disk of the sun in the sky. The fact that total solar eclipses occur at all is a quirk of cosmic geometry. The moon orbits an average of 239,000 miles (385,000 kilometers) from Earth — just the right distance to seem the same size in the sky as the much-larger sun. However, these heavenly bodies line up only about once every 18 months.

The path of totality for the Aug. 21, 2017, total solar eclipse is about 70 miles wide and stretches from Oregon to South Carolina. It passes through Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

During totality, the area inside the moon's shadow is cloaked in twilight — a very strange feeling to experience in the middle of the day. Just before and just after totality, observers can see this cloak o...   [Read More]

Riverplace Boulevard Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvement Project On Its Way

The Riverplace Boulevard Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvement Project is up for final approval from the Downtown Development Review Board on Thursday.  The project would alter about a half-mile of Riverplace Boulevard from the Main Street Bridge to Prudential Drive on the Southbank to “prioritize access for pedestrians and bicyclists over cars.”

The “road diet” includes slimmer traffic lanes in exchange for protected bike paths, off-street parking, wider sidewalks, built-in bus stops and upgraded landscaping.

The Downtown Development Review Board (DDRB) application said the project focuses on “reduced travel lanes, traffic calming, and enhanced landscaping” to make the area safer for Southbank residents. In addition to existing condo and apartment towers, more housing is in development for the area, including Catalyst Development Partners’ proposed San Marco Apartments at 1444 Home St. and the 263-unit riverfront Broadstone River House under construction.

The design renderings presented to the Downtown Investment Authority show three lanes of traffic and off-street parking which would provide a buffer for 5-foot-wide bike paths and 8-foot-wide sidewalks on each side...   [Read More]
